Ron is the founder of Another Broken Egg. He grew up in Montgomery, Alabama but found roots in Fort Walton in the early ’60s after his family was stationed at Eglin, making it their home base.
Before getting into the restaurant business Ron worked for the DOD and DOE for 24 years in various positions. “From working in San Diego designing secure compounds for the Air Force F16 Pilot training in Saudi Arabia, to Cape Canaveral, redesigning Launchpads 36A and 36B for the Atlas-Centaur and Titan Centaur unmanned space flights, to my final project developing the manufacturing facilities for the Super colliding Super Conductor in Louisiana,” Green said.
What inspired you or led you to your current career? How did you get into the restaurant industry?
“What inspired me to get into the restaurant business was the love of pleasing people and the thought that through the food I could do that! I always have been very particular about where I eat and the experience. I felt that in the breakfast, brunch, and Lunch segment there were no high-end, creative menus with the liquor component. Apparently, I got it right as I had 2-hour waits within the first two months!”
Other than your own, which are your favorite restaurants in the Destin Area?
“My favorite restaurants are: Dewey’s, McGuire’s, Camille’s, and Ruth’s Chris… coming in close behind at Grand Boulevard are Cantina Larado, Flemings, and Craft Bar. The Beach House has the best Fish Tacos though!”
When you have free time, what are some of your places to go and things to do here locally?
“My free time is mostly spent on the great golf courses in this area, going to the beaches at sundown, cruising and entertaining friends on the boat, and enjoying the amazing Emerald green waters that this area offers. Mattie Kellie’s, Sinfonia, and other outdoor live music venues are a blast with your favorite drink and coolers in tow along with your beach chairs.”
When guests visit, where are the first places you bring them?
“The first places I take guests are to my restaurants, on the boat, and to the beach, the area’s biggest assets!”
Who in this area do you most admire and/or work with?
“I truly admire all the successful business people in the area for their hard work, drive, optimism, and their love to serve customers. These folks are the backbone to America’s success!”
What is your favorite thing or something unique about Destin?
“The most unique thing about Destin is its harbor and fishing capabilities and the way it was naturally designed to be the luckiest Fishing Village in the world!”
What current or former local business or place makes you the most nostalgic about the Destin Area?
“Nostalgia in Destin would be the Former Green Knight, Dewey Destin has a lifetime of stories and profitable businesses, and last but not least would be the Lucky Snapper that used to be in the Harbor but has been replaced over the years by Margaritaville, a Jimmy Buffet chain.”
Is there anything you’d like to learn in the near future such as a skill, art hobby, or sport?
“I’ve always been creative and have wanted for years to learn how to use color in paintings. I believe I could be a decent artist, so over the years, I’ve collected a lot of photography that I’d like to convert to art. Along with that, I’ve written a few Children’s stories that I might be able to publish and illustrate …if I’m lucky!”
Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
“I see myself spending more time in the BVI’s on a sailboat and the West Coast… if my son ever has children!”
What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
“When I think of home, I feel a place where one experiences secure relationships and affirmation. It’s a place where people share and understand each other and the comfort within.”
Is there anything you would like to add or like people to know about you or your business?
“Being good in business is easy, being great is difficult and nothing short of right is right!!”
