Whitney Lee is the owner and founder of Sociallee PR & Digital Media, a social media, and PR agency specializing in driving users to book and buy experiences online- from resorts, events, products, and services. Founded in 2015, the Sociallee team brings so much more to the table than just posting pretty pictures and clever captions. They are experts in delivering the bottom line – growing their client’s sales and influence. Whitney earned a Master’s in Integrated Marketing Communications from Florida State University and has been a resident of Destin, Florida, since 2008. Whitney loves to travel, fitness, cooking, and of course, soaking up the Florida sunshine on a boat!
Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I love my family! My parents are still together after 40+ years of marriage and still reside in my hometown, Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I am the youngest of three children. My older brother, Aaron, is a tech and production genius, as well as a gifted artist. My older sister, Mallory, is an attorney living in McComb, Mississippi, with her husband, Lance, and my adorable nieces – Emerson, Myers, and Sawyer. I was so lucky to grow up in the same city with both sets of grandparents and was very close to all of them.
Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do? How did you get into your industry?
I have spent my entire career here in Destin, focusing on marketing and public relations. I love having my own agency – it gives me the freedom to work with numerous business owners and industries. I also love the opportunity to grow a team and help guide and mentor them through their career. I love that every day is different! One day I am working from home – writing releases, reviewing email newsletters, etc, and the next day we are doing a photoshoot with a mermaid! There is never a dull moment.
What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Tough question! I love sushi and frequent Domo and Soi Bistro. For seafood – we do the Hook and Cook at Brotulas with all the delicious sides! Bijoux is a favorite date night spot!
From where are you originally, long have you lived or worked in our community and how did you end up here?
I was born and raised in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, but vacationed here many times growing up. I moved here in 2008 after graduating with my bachelor’s from the University of Southern Mississippi. I thought I would just be here for a summer job – to enjoy the beach and buy a little time before getting into the “real world” but here I am 13+ years later!
Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Mr. Buddy Runnels. He is a long-time Destinite and has watched the community blossom into what it is today. He has had a hand in several developments like Kelly Plantation, but he also played a major role in Henderson State Park and the Mid Bay Bridge. He is a solid, Christian businessman that I really have a lot of respect for – personally and professionally.
When you have free time, what are some of your places to go and things to do here locally? When guests visit, where are the first places you take them?
We boat all the time! For our guests, we always take them fishing and then do a hook and cook. Or just to the beach!
What advice would you give to people?
Pick your experience here at the beach. If you love the hustle and bustle, lively environment, come to Destin during the summer. If you want a peaceful, relaxed beach experience, try October! The holiday season in this area is also very fun.
What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
It was Marlin Grill in Baytowne- which recently closed. I worked there during grad school and there were so many good times there for me in my early 20’s.
What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love that we live in a small town but we still have access to a lot of amenities, shops, and experiences. Small town USA charm!
Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Growing the marketing agency and continuing to grow the team. Starting my own family. Owning investment properties all over the coast.
Favorite month and favorite holiday and why?
Here in Destin, I love the weather in April and May. But I LOVE the holiday season in general- the stretch between Thanksgiving, Christmas and NYE is my favorite time of year, no matter where I am!
Who inspires you to be better?
Knowing that I have so much potential and it’s up to ME to really live up to that. I can make my life whatever I want it to be!

Is there anything you would like to add or like people to know about you or your business?
I always want me and my business to be known for integrity. It’s my number one value in life. No matter what happens – I always want my family, friends, and clients to feel that I always had their best interest at heart, that they can depend on me, and most importantly, when I give my word to someone – I will always come through.
